Accoya and Tricoya wood

Anker Stuy Coatings: Partnering with Accsys Technologies

Anker Stuy Coatings work in partnership with Accsys Technologies to offer the best coating performance on Accoya and Tricoya® wood. These coatings are formulated to provide optimum adhesion, giving outstanding long-term durability.

The Benefits of Accoya Wood

Accoya offers a combination of stability, durability, and versatility. The wood does not exhibit shrinkage or swelling, which means it's incredibly durable. However, it is crucial to seal the end grain of Accoya and apply a quality coating system that minimizes water absorption. Reduced water uptake enhances outdoor durability, ensuring longevity.

Building Accoya Wood

Anker Stuy Hydrolux System

Anker Stuy offers a wood coating system that is easy to apply, has quick-drying and curing properties, and ensures minimal water and moisture uptake. The Anker Stuy Hydrolux system for Accoya is a primer-primer-topcoat system available in both opaque and translucent colors.

Tricoya: The Next Level in Modified Wood

Accsys Technologies also developed Tricoya, supplied through Medite Smart Ply. Tricoya Extreme is a fibreboard with no shrinkage or swelling behavior. Proper sealing of the end grain and a reliable coating system are essential. Tricoya is commonly used for exterior doors. Our Hydrolux wood coatings provide excellent adhesion on Tricoya, reducing moisture content and enhancing outdoor durability. The primer fills the fibreboard, leaving a smooth, beautiful surface.

Our wood coatings have been tested by Accsys Technologies and Medite Smart Ply. System recommendations and warranties can be found on their websites. For more information about Tricoya Extreme, click here.

Modified Wood Species

Beyond Accoya, other modified wood species are available. These woods undergo thermal or chemical treatments to enhance durability and dimensional stability. The process involves controlled heating to around 212°C, followed by even cooling. This results in increased durability and improved stability.

Examples of Modified Wood

  • Fraké Noir®: Thermally preserved African Limba (Terminalia superba). This process enhances its durability to class I. The wood gains a luxurious walnut-like appearance with distinctive black lines and occasional pinholes.
  • Thermowood®: Thermally modified Finnish spruce (Picea abies). Careful sorting and thermal modification yield a high-durability softwood product (class II).
